Defensive Positioning

Where you stand matters more than how fast you are. Smart positioning turns routine plays into easy outs.

Shifts by hitter type

Hitter TypeAdjustment
Pull hitter (righty pulls left)Shift SS and 3B toward the left side
Opposite-field hitterStay honest, shade slightly the other way
Fast runner at the plateInfield plays a step closer
Weak hitter / bunterInfield creeps in, corners charge on contact
The best defensive teams don't make spectacular plays — they don't need to. They're in the right spot before the ball is hit, so every play looks routine.
