10-Minute Tee Work Drill

The batting tee is the most underrated tool in baseball. Every professional hitter uses one daily. If it’s good enough for MLB, it’s good enough for your kid.

The routine

TimeTee PositionFocus
3 minMiddle of plateLevel swing. Hit line drives — ball should fly straight, not pop up or roll.
3 minInside (close to hitter)Pull the ball. Hands inside, rotate early.
2 minOutside (away from hitter)Drive the ball the other way. Let it travel deeper, extend through.
2 minHigh and lowAdjust tee height. High pitches: stay on top. Low pitches: slight uppercut, drive through.

Key cues

Feet shoulder-width, slight bend in the knees. Load by shifting weight slightly back. Stride forward (small step, not a lunge). Swing through the ball — bat path goes through the zone, not across it.

Quality over quantity. 25 focused swings are worth more than 100 lazy ones. When form breaks down, stop and reset.
